For many children, their room is an important place of retreat. If many are pleased at the idea of sharing their room with their brother or sister, others find it very annoying not to have their own space. Frustrated with having to share everything, fights are inevitable and resentment can fester. However, it is not always easy for parents either, who don’t have the space for everyone to have their OWN room, and who don’t have any solution (apart from moving house, which is generally not an option!).
This is why we are proposing 9 simple ideas to create a shared bedroom that is pleasant and organised, in which there will be no jealous parties!
1) Go for a stylish bunk bed
The big brands have invented all types of bunk beds, one more stylish and original than the next. Once in bed, the children will forget that they are sharing a room.
2) Hang their name up to show the room belongs to them
Put each child’s name in different areas of the bedroom for them to see that even if the space is shared, it still belongs to them. The advantage to this solution is that you can decorate it as you see fit: use banners, masking tape, wooden letters… personalise it while staying in keeping with the decorative themes and colours of the room.
3) Symmetry is key. Each child is given the same things and they can personalise it as they choose (such as a notice board on which they can stick posters of their favourite football teams).
When everything is identical almost to the centimeter, there will be no cause for arguments or jealousy.
